The Kemp Open is a annual fall 2 Person Best shot Golf Tournament that is played at Irv Warren Golf Course in Waterloo Iowa. It origins came from a group of people who needed a break from work to relax and enjoy the day. Any day rain or shine away from work is a good day.

The participants for the outing include family, friends and co-workers. It is open to anyone who feels the need to take a break from work and have some fun.

You do not need to be a pro to play in this tournament we have many ranges of golf abilites; from those who have never played to those with low handicaps. This tournament is all about going out and having fun and not about winning it. If you are playing to win this tournament then you are playing for all the wrong reasons.

The Tournament is usually held the 3rd Friday of September. This all depends on my schedule and also the course schedule.

Prizes are all dependent on me having enough time to both call and round them up from various local business. If you are interested in helping me out with this part of the tournament please email me. At one time we had a traveling fake rolex trophy for the first place team but I'm afraid it has been lost for some years now.

Starting this year (2006) the first place team will have their pictures taken in new Green Kemp Open sports coats aka Masters coats along with their first place trophies. They will then need to wear them at the following years Kemp Open; atlleast just proir to teeing off so that everyone can cheer/heckle them.

As in all previous years you may cheat just as long as you don't feel bad about it the next day. Heckling is allowed if not encouraged during the golf outing especially during the initial tee off.

After the tournament we head to the Kemp Mansion and have catering from Carlos O'Kellys and sit around a bon fire until we run out of stories to tell. The after Tournament festivities are open for both to those who participated in the Golf Tournament and thier families and also to those who where unable to attend the Golf Tournament. I only request that those who come bring thier own beverages and lawn chairs to sit around the fire.

For the meal we ask for donations which we apply to Alzheimers Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s.

There are no rain dates for the Kemp Open. In the 13 year history we have only had one tournament in which all the groups could not complete the 18 holes of golf (even that year most of the groups did complete 18 holes). If it does get rained out we then gather at the Kemp Mansion (19th Hole) that night for food and drink. Again if it does look like it may rain our groups typically dwindle down but the groups who don't melt in rain still go off.

Typically the tee times start at 11:00am and end about 1:00pm. The final group usually finishes around 5:30-6:00pm. Allow for approx 5hrs of golf.

You can request what group you want to play with but I cannot guarantee that is who you will play with. I do try my best to put groups together that are about the same ability or who would have a fun time together.

As for tee times please email me your request and I do try to meet these times. I know many people may have meetings and or may be taking a half day vacation and wont be able to play until later in the day.
